Our Little Artists

Randy and Shane have both become quite the draw-ers lately. With Shaney, it all started on the walls . . . in fact, we still have some evidence of his talents visible for all our visitors to see. But, thanks heavens, he's moved beyond that a little bit. Randy spends quite a bit of time writing his name or drawing whatever animal happens to be his favorite at the moment. Today, he was trying to draw a Gentle Tapir. He came and asked me to draw one for him. I had no idea what it looked like, except that he told me it had a long nose. So, I made a first attempt. My Tapir had a long tail like a dog, and a nose that looked more like a beak than anything else. Randy seemed a little dubious when I gave him back the paper. He went and asked Rosy if Gentle Tapirs had tails. She assured him that they did, but he was still unimpressed with my drawing. He came up to me and said, "Dad, I think we need to try again." That remark, combined with my drawing, pretty much put both Rosy and I on the floor. Anyway, I thought I'd post a photo of an actual Tapir combined with some of our drawings. First, an actual Tapir:
And the drawings (remember, these were done without any knowledge of what a Tapir actually looked like, only that it had a droopy nose and tail like an elephant):
And, finally, Rosy's reaction to my initial artwork:
